Hello Pilots,

we currently have foreign paragliding events suspended until the time when movement across borders is truly unrestricted. However, we have been flying thermally in the Beskydy Mountains for some time, so we would like to offer you an alternative training program in the form of thermal courses right here in the Beskydy Mountains.

Benefits are:

easy travel without the use of borders and other complications with controls and possible quarantines,
quality training and teaching in Flight Park Javorový,
pleasant accommodation in rooms or tents in Flight Park Javorový, quietly with the family,
organization of events precisely tailored to the current weather,
in the course we will get acquainted with other terrains in the Beskydy,
we have the opportunity to quickly move to other terrains in the Czech Republic.

The events will be on the same dates as this year’s Thermal Courses Abroad (Wednesday-Sunday, Saturday-Wednesday). In case of worse weather, we will negotiate operatively, as you are used to with us. The price for the course is the same, accommodation is cheaper and more comfortable, lower hills, but the training potential is still interesting.

Register in the same way as you would go to Thermal Training abroad until the borders are easily clear, count on the program and security in the Beskydy Mountains.

You can look forward to thermal flying lessons, daily weather analysis, training and development of your pilot knowledge and skills, in case of a windy day also a slope and practice of cross starts and evening fire – that is clear.

We have been working on our own training application PES (Pilot Education System) for several years. During training, we record not only all training exercises, but mainly the mistakes you made during training, we monitor your progress, we inform you about repeated mistakes. Since last season, you have everything available in real time online in your personal account on the El Speedo website, during the training you can find out again and again about the correct execution of a maneuver that you did not succeed as the instructor imagined. So what’s new?

When you make mistake during flying , we make a notice with this problem and send it to the „virtual instructor“ , it will also appear in your El Speedo account. What does it mean? That we have created videos for the basic mistakes, in which the instructor will explain to you what you did wrong and what is the essence of the correct execution of the maneuver. Gradually, we will add these videos to other mistakes, so you can look forward to a really interesting and modern way of teaching paragliding. PES and its online content is part of the price offer of courses in the El Speedo training program. It’s a way to make paragliding training more complex.

The paragliding season in Beskydy Mountains started completely different, that use to be. It started with new regulations, new rules for teaching, but when the sun is shining, the air is warming up, the thermals are working and we are over the hill… So everything is as it should be!

We we have improved online teaching and took it to the next level with new teaching materials and equipped the training with new streamed lectures. So our students can safely watch online lectures, in which we combine the view of instructor and a mirror view from a tablet with an El Speedo educational presentation. And this includes painting and related sounds

Airspace specifications for aircraft

Repetition is the mother of wisdom, so at the beginning of this year’s paragliding season, we will remember in what space we move with our glider.

When a person unknowing the beauty of paragliding looks up at the sky, he probably thinks he doesn’t care who he flies. But the opposite is true. We have divided the airspace into several categories that have different restrictions or even bans.

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has defined a total of 7 types of airspace, which we will discuss in this article.

CTA – control area

Controlled airspace extending upwards from a specified height above the ground.

TMA – terminal control area

A control area, normally established where air traffic service routes converge near one or more major airports.

CTR – control zone

Controlled airspace, extending from the ground surface to a specified height

TSA – temporaty segregated area

A defined part of airspace, normally under the jurisdiction of one aviation component, which by mutual agreement is temporarily reserved for the exclusive use of another aviation component and through which no other traffic will be permitted to pass.

TRA – temporary reserved area

A defined part of the airspace, normally under the authority of one component of the aviation, which, by mutual agreement, is temporarily reserved for specific use by another component of the aviation and through which other operations may fly under ATC clearance.

ATZ – aerodrome traffic zone

Airspace of specified dimensions, which serves to protect airport traffic.

AIP – laeronautical information publication

A publication issued by a governmental authority containing aeronautical information needed for air navigation in a country. As of January 1, 2008, the AIP of the Czech Republic is freely accessible on the Air Traffic Control of the Czech Republic website.

VFR – visual flight rules

Method of flight control, enabling flight in suitable meteorological conditions. In such a flight, the pilot controls and navigates the aircraft according to the view from the cabin.

IFR – instrument flight rules

A method of flight management that allows flight even in worsening weather conditions when the weather does not allow VFR flight. During such a flight, the pilot controls the aircraft on the basis of data from the instruments.

NOTAM – notice to arimen

The NOTAM is issued as a warning of danger or to inform pilots of changes in air traffic. Their duration may be limited to a few hours / days.

AGL – above ground level

When taking off, approaching and landing, and flying below the altitude, the distance from the ground to the pilot is important. Therefore, he sets the altitude pressure QNH on the altimeter, which is handed over to the ATC unit. For activities around the airport. Regional QNH is used for flights between airports.

And let’s see what spaces we have in the Czech Republic.

AIRSPACE „P“

Prohibited area

The part of the airspace from the ground in which the flight must not take place. These spaces can be found here, for example, above the Prague Castle or the Temelín Nuclear Power Station.

AIRSPACE „R“

Restricted area

Airspace of defined dimensions, above land or territorial waters of a State in which the aircraft is restricted in accordance with established conditions. This space can be flown, but only if certain conditions are met. These spaces can be found above National Parks.

AIRSPACE „D“

Dangerous area

Airspace of defined dimensions within which activities dangerous to the flight of an aircraft may take place at a particular time. Flying through this area is not prohibited, but is not recommended. In these areas, for example, ammunition is disposed of, or there are gas reservoirs. These spaces can be found in Dolní Dunajovice, where the largest gas reservoir in the Czech Republic is located.

AIRSPACE „G“

It ranges from ground to 300 m AGL outside CTR controlled airports. In addition to the above conditions, VMC minima are set – min. visibility 1500 m (helicopters 800 m), maintaining the ratio of speed and visibility 100: 1 (fly max. 100 km / h in flight visibility of 1 km), outside the cloud in the visibility of the ground.

AIRSPACE „E“

It ranges from 300 m AGL to FL 95 outside CTR and TMA controlled airports. Minima VMC – min. visibility 5 km, distance from clouds 300 m vertically and 1.5 km horizontally.

AIRSPACE „C“

It ranges from FL 95 to FL 660 inclusive, TMA Prague outside the TMA of other controlled airports. Minima VMC are the same as in class E, from FL 100 above the required visibility rises to 8 km.

At the Beskydy in El Speedo paragliding school we use the forced postponement of the paragliding season to fine-tune the teaching materials and to prepare online lessons. We do everything we can to get you and new people interested in flying in the lessons according to current possibilities. We have reformatted our basic training courses so that we are able to lead them according to actual conditions in the form of individual training or training in smaller training groups.

Virus spinning the world and what about El Speedo?

We observ the situation with coronavirus in the same way as most people in the Czech Republic. Anyway, we do not want anyone to bring any disease from our events or to have to quarantine for 14 days after the event. We cancel all trips to Italy.

And what are next options?

Abroad – depending on the weather we will choose destinations where the virus did not spread – for example, Slovenian Downpour – where it is already warmer.
Beskydy – the temperature is gradually going up and thermals have already started to fly in our country. The advantage is lower costs and greater operativnost.

We propose the solution, after monitoring the group mood and the possibilities of pilots and weather we choose the destination and go to fly, because it is „scientifically“ proven that it is impossible to catch it high above the ground. The motivation to stay in the air is clear: o).

No but otherwise we are out of the trips we spend the whole March preparing our aquaponic farm and if you would like to learn, put your hands on the work and fly according to weather, so sign up and activity before and after flying with facilities at Flight Park Javorový.

Voluntaring on Prašivá – already this weekend 13. – 15. 3. 2020

So it is confirmed, in 14 days the west take off on Prašivá will be cut. And I would like to ask you for help, because before that it would be good to put everything in order. So that there is no unnecessarily large churbes and we can somehow manipulate with the remaining wood. It is not a one-day job, but rather for two or three days, and due to the weather, it will probably be combined with flying, because they are supposed to blow Z and SW directions, and that’s nice on Prašivá.

When:

This year’s first paragliding workshop „SAFETY PARASEM“ was a little windy, but it was not an obstacle for us. During the withdrawal the rescue parachute from the pilot harnesses, some treasures were found. From poorly packed reserve, through non-certified carabiners, to complete rescu parachute grandfathers. On Saturday evening, lectures were held and we were also broadcasting live on YouTube. You can watch their record. But it is only in Czech language.
